Cold, Clean Water – Steering the Future for Scotland’s Rivers at Fisheries Management Scotland’s Annual Conference

The Fisheries Management Scotland Conference is an annual keynote event and an opportunity for the fisheries management community to come together and discuss topical issues. It allows MSA Member, Fisheries Management Scotland, to raise awareness of local, regional and national projects delivered by their members and other partners and stimulate conversation and debate about our precious wild Atlantic salmon and native freshwater fish.

Contributors to the conference bring a wealth of experience on fish, fisheries and wider aquatic biodiversity. The event allows people to share experience not only within Scotland but beyond that to a UK and international level.

Brian Davidson, Director of Communications at Fisheries Management Scotland said “We are delighted to announce that the 2024 Fisheries Management Scotland Annual conference will be held on 28 March at the Aviemore Highland Resort. This is an opportunity for the fisheries management community to come together with key stakeholders to stimulate conversation, debate and action to protect and restore our precious wild Atlantic salmon and native freshwater fish. Our conference allows us to showcase some examples of the wide range of local, regional and national action being delivered by our members and other partners.”

He continued “Our wild salmon, in common with wider biodiversity, are in crisis, both in Scotland and across the north Atlantic. During the 2024 conference – Cold, Clean Water – Steering the Future for Scotland’s Rivers – we will take stock of the current situation, highlight some of the issues that we are currently facing, and then look to the future to discuss and identity solutions. We need to accelerate the pace and scale of work to restore our freshwater and coastal environments and demonstrate the wider benefits to Scotland’s biodiversity which will arise from protecting and restoring this keystone species.”

As an Alliance of six organisations, we will build on the existing work of our partners and maximise our impact by taking a coordinated approach and vital action in order to halt and reverse the decline of wild Atlantic salmon.

The goal of the Missing Salmon Alliance is to build an evidence-base to influence national and international decision-makers to regulate activities that adversely impact wild Atlantic salmon.
