MSA Scientists to Attend Marine Alliance for Science and Technology Scotland (MASTS) Fisheries Policy - Science Interaction Event
Our Marine Data Modelling Scientist, Emma Tyldesley, will be representing the MSA Likely Suspects Framework (LSF) team and providing an oral presentation as a contribution to a significant symposium on 7th Feb 2023.
With a background in maths and oceanography, Emma is researching the use of bio-physical model outputs to support the development of the Likely Suspects Framework, focussing particularly on describing the conditions faced by post-smolt at sea.
Emma will be taking this essential research to the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology Scotland (MASTS) Fisheries Policy and Science Interaction event, which is taking place in person in Edinburgh on Tuesday 7th February 2023.
The event aims to provide the opportunity to showcase to Marine Scotland Policy colleagues the scope and research expertise relevant to fisheries across the MASTS community. The symposium is designed to allow a broad selection of research to be highlighted through a series of brief presentations. Policy colleagues will be invited to participate in a facilitated open discussion to explore how the research community can engage and help to better inform policy.
Emma will be providing an overview of the LSF work streams, with reference to how the management of fish with an anadromous life cycle requires careful understanding of both the processes in marine and freshwater and of their interactions in determining full lifetime success. She will present how MSA scientists are leading the way, pulling together information from across the board, to inform the development of a new management decision-support tool for Atlantic salmon.
As an Alliance of six organisations, we will build on the existing work of our partners and maximise our impact by taking a coordinated approach and vital action in order to halt and reverse the decline of wild Atlantic salmon.
The goal of the Missing Salmon Alliance is to build an evidence-base to influence national and international decision-makers to regulate activities that adversely impact wild Atlantic salmon.
The Missing Salmon Alliance
The MSA is comprised of the following members:
Game & Wildlife Conservation Trust, Atlantic Salmon Trust, the Angling Trust with Fish Legal, The Rivers Trust and Fisheries Management Scotland.
